Espresso Blend
All of our coffees are shipped whole bean.
Our espresso is a blend of our current micro lot coffees that will accentuate the acidity, body and balance when pulled or brewed as an espresso. Just the right balance of body, silky mouthfeel, sweet acidity, fruity notes and chocolate undertones.
Our espresso is light roasted, craft style like our other coffees to bring out the origin flavors rather than the roasting flavors of traditional espresso. Heavier roasted coffees react differently to grinding and water when extraction occurs causing more resistance against pressure being produced by the water pump. Darker roasted coffees usually extract better at coarser grinds since they retain less moisture so the same grind with light roasts will pull very fast. Note that body and roast level are not the same. A good shot should take 20-30 seconds to extract well.
The more advanced your equipment is the better your results will usually be. Equipment such as the Breville line even with built in grinders might present some complications. We have found that using the double porta filter for single shots works better since the diameter (53mm) is smaller and deeper than the professional models (58mm) which are wider and shallower. This creates a larger surface area and less depth for the water to travel over and through making the shot more accurate. Start with a grind setting in the middle and tweak from there.
It is also helpful to not use the built in grinder’s hopper, rather weigh your beans accordingly per shot/use and manually put in the hopper to be ground. This will be more accurate. Typically, 8-12g for lighter roasts, for a single shot.
Please keep these tips in mind when working with our espresso blends. We are always here to help you troubleshoot any issues! Just shoot us an email at the address on your order confirmation or fill out the form here!
