Troubadour Coffee Roasters

TOP QUALITY COFFEE ROASTERS

We are passionate about our coffee, source most of it direct from the growers and are proud to pay them above a typical “Fair Trade” price. 100% of that money goes directly to the grower, guaranteed. We roast each coffee on-site, and we make each beverage to order. We do not offer flavors, syrups, smoothies, frappes, meal-type foods or most typical coffee shop drinks, but for good reason.

We are very focused on the quality aspect of our coffees and want you to experience coffee for the passion, craft and art of it. Coffee is the seed of a fruit and if its grown, processed, roasted and brewed properly, the results will be amazing and not taste bitter or burnt. If your black coffee tastes bitter or burnt, you're drinking the wrong quality coffee!

For those that brew at home or the office, we sell our offerings in our shop and here at our website. You can read about each coffee, get the statistics such at altitude, varietal and processing method to help you decide on what to get. All of our coffees are shipped within 48 hrs of purchase online and shipped whole bean. If we happen to be out of a selection you ordered we will email you and ask to substitute or give you an approximate timeframe your slection might be available again.

Hope you will enjoy visiting us and your coffee!

Consulting & Barista Training

Opening a coffee shop? There are a lot of areas to consider. The first basic questions here are ‘do you know what your opening costs will be, realistically speaking?’  ‘What is your concept and how does it fit in to the area you are considering opening?’  The biggest reason good folks fail in this business is undercapitalization.  The second reason is a bad location.  The third reason is lack of experience.

The reality is you are going to be spending anywhere from $60,000 to $300,000 or more to open a coffee shop so getting advice from someone with experience will get you started in the right direction.

Opening a coffee shop is big commitment as you know. My barista training class is part of my consultation program. It is designed to be taken in conjunction with the consultation at a date later specified. Knowing how to pull shots and work with milk is as vital as working on your business vision. Together we will work on all of these areas.

I can also assist with an existing coffee shop operation! Did you buy a shop and don’t know where to turn? Is your shop not performing as you’d like? Are you an absentee owner with a staff that might not be ideal for your business?  I can help.

Whether you need to fix a broken shop or change the direction of a current operation, let’s talk. In some instances, a new or non-working shop owner might need to learn barista skills. Whatever your situation, I encourage you to work with me on a consultation basis. However, I can offer just the barista training for this type of situation. Please contact me to discuss the possibilities and to see if we are a good fit.

Coffee Shop Consultation

Having the right tools and information to open your new coffee shop business is essential to your success! These are some of the areas I can assist you in:

  • Barista training

  • Menu development

  • Vendor selection

  • Operations

  • Equipment advice

  • General coffee business consulting

  • Layout advice

  • Visual floor plan

I offer a flat-fee, flexible monthly consultation program with no long-term commitment. This is great news since many consultants require a lengthy commitment. My monthly consultation is focused towards your coffee business vision. Inquire with me and let’s get this ball rolling!

Barista Training

For all prospective clients, whether you are just getting into the industry or need to become more hands-on in your shop, my training is for you.  It teaches barista skills paired with personal instruction and consultation to give you the tools you need to feel confident about opening and/or operating a coffee business and working in it as a barista.

Please note: I do not offer barista training as a standalone class. I only offer it in conjunction with my consultation program to help guide you in opening a coffee shop. We will hold the training at your new shop approximately 30 to 45 days prior to your opening (distance restrictions apply).

I do no offer consumer-based training; only professional-based training that coincides with consultation for your coffee shop venture.

 Class Description:

Crop to Cup Fundamentals

Dedicated to learning where coffee comes from with a crop to cup discussion, complete with visuals where the student will learn the history of coffee, origins, production, harvesting, processing, acids, defects, green coffee grading, terminology, tasting and much more. These fundamentals will give each student a chance to understand coffee cultivation, where it is grown, plant species, varietals, seed processing, roasting, brewing and how it all relates to flavor in the final cup.  We will later apply these principals to Espresso and Milk Skills and/or Manual Coffee Brewing Skills (depending on your class choices) with a hands-on approach. This is literally a seed to cup interaction that will immerse the student into the coffee culture.  Each student will receive a study manual to use in the class, to take notes in and to keep.

Espresso and Milk Skills

This is a hands-on approach to learning the fundamentals of espresso and milk science. Students will learn how to properly dose, tamp and pull shots of espresso and understand what they should taste like. We will also learn the basics of blending for espresso, milk texturing and stretching, proper milk temperature for beverages, proper beverage sizes and proportions, and basic latte art. Each student will receive a study manual to use in the class, take notes in and to keep. If this class is taken with Manual Coffee Brewing Skills (below), the first part of day 2 is spent with extra espresso and milk lab time. Each student will receive a study manual to use in the class, to take notes in and to keep.  Included in this class are:
